Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) Carnival at Kuching Waterfront

Second edition of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) Carnival Heart of Borneo (HoB) hosted by the Sarawak Forest Department was held at Kuching Waterfront from 26th October 2017 until 30th October 2017. The carnival was an initiative done by Sarawak Forest Department in upraising the standard living and quality of life of the HoB communities under the 11th Malaysia Plan. This year the theme “Exploring Forest Products Beyond Timber” emphasizing on the non-timber products that were showcase and promoted by our local entrepreneurs within the HoB sites. A total of 38 exhibition booths has been set up and among the exhibitors participated in the carnival were the government agencies, non-governmental organizations and ethnic communities such as Iban, Kelabit, Lun Bawang, Penan, Bisaya, Kenyah and etc. Apart from that, there were many activities were held during these 5 days such as karaoke competition, potpourri demonstration and also performance from buskers and local artistes.

The ceremony was officiated by the Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Chief Minister of Sarawak. Also present during the ceremony were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, YB Datu Len Talif Salleh (Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment), Tn Hj Sapuan Ahmad (Director of Forest) and few others.

Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd (HTSB) was one of the participants involved in these 5 days exhibition and 15 of our staffs were selected in manning the booth according to the working rotation. During the opening ceremony, our Chief Minister had visited Harwood Timber’s Booth and leave his signature in the visitor’s book.  

 

In commemorating the event, Our Executive Chairman had presented souvenir to the Chief Minister of Sarawak as a compliments from HTSB.

 

          

HTSB had contributed home furniture for the final lucky draw during the closing of NTFP Carnival and was presented to the winners by YB Datu Len Talif Salleh.
